Washington, DC - A Walled Lake, Michigan, business owner was sentenced Tuesday to two years in prison, announced Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Richard E. Zuckerman of the Justice Department’s Tax Division.
According to court statements and filings, Johni Semma owned Bayside Sports Bar & Grill (Bayside) and The Coliseum, an adult entertainment business. As the owner of Bayside, Semma was responsible for collecting and paying to the IRS Bayside’s employment taxes. From the first quarter of 2008 through the first quarter of 2015, however, Semma timely filed only two employment tax returns with the IRS, despite being obligated to file 29 such returns during this period. He also did not pay approximately $1.3 million in employment taxes that were due.
Justice Department Announces Civil Investigation into Chemical Restraint Use at Two Nevada Juvenile Facilities Published: 10 January 2021 10 January 2021
Las Vegas, Nevada - The Justice Department announced today that it has opened an investigation into the use of pepper spray at two juvenile correctional facilities run by the Nevada Juvenile Justice Services Agency: the Nevada Youth Training Center and the Summit View Youth Center. The investigation will examine whether staff at the two facilities use pepper spray in a manner that violates youth’s rights under the Constitution.
The department has not reached any conclusions regarding the allegations in this matter. The investigation will be conducted under the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act (CRIPA) and the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. It s time for latent ladies, knights, serfs and jesters to dust off their glorious garb in preparation for this year s Medieval Madness. The annual event at Kiwi North in Whangārei is back again with a day of medieval activities, food and fun. Punters will be able to fight a knight, and enjoy mounted medieval displays and Celtic drumming band Clan Celtica. There will also be train and tractor rides, face painting, a bouncy castle, and more. The event is on January 31 from 10am to 3pm.
